The Task Force decided
to recommend creation of a State
Building and Safety Code Commission
with existing
departments enforcing the codes
they currently enforce without listing the codes (there was
discussion of adding mechanical inspection under Department
of Labor and still leaving
mechanical plan review under Department
of Public Safety); strive for a one-stop permitting,
review
and inspection center; and for adoption of a statewide
residential building code.

| Common Sense Codes for
Alaska |
An
organization calling itself "Common Sense Codes
for Alaska" has been formed.
Their goals include making suggestions to the Task Force on adoption
and agencies
that will adopt codes. They have representation from a number of organizations,
city
governments and private companies and are looking for others who might
want to get
